, California (June 21, 2022) – 21-year-old Javier Bueno Jr. was identified as the driver who was killed after crashing with an RV on Father's Day in Hesperia.

The incident was reported at about 6:40 a.m. June 19 at Ranchero Road and Cascade Avenue.

Bueno was trapped inside his damaged car with serious injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Bueno was driving a 2005 Toyota Scion TC east on Ranchero Road, approaching the intersection of Cascade Avenue. At the same time, a 2022 Chevrolet Motor Coach was heading west on Ranchero, approaching the same intersection.

The Chevrolet driver made a left turn directly into the Toyota's path, causing it to hit the right side of the Chevrolet.

Bueno got trapped inside his damaged car with serious injuries.

County firefighters responded to the scene and freed the driver. The firefighters transported him to Desert Valley Hospital by ambulance, but the man was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

The driver of the RV suffered minor injuries.

CHP is investigating the collision.

Hesperia, California (June 19, 2022) – A man died when his car crashed into an RV on Father's Day at an intersection in Hesperia, a local news source reported.

The June 19 crash occurred at around 6:40 a.m. at Ranchero Road and Cascade Avenue.

Victorville CHP and the Fire Department responded to the scene to find a 2005 Scion TC and a 2019 Chevrolet Express 3500 Four Winds RV involved in the accident.

The Hispanic man driving the Scion sustained severe injuries. The firefighters requested a helicopter to airlift the patient to a trauma center. The firefighters said due to a change in condition, they rushed the man to Desert Valley Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

It was not clear if anyone else was injured.

Authorities closed Ranchero Road in both directions for several hours while they investigated.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.

NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The NHTSA report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020:

Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%

Fatalities among drivers 65 and older up 14%

Pedestrian fatalities up 13%

Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%

Daytime fatalities up 11%

Fatalities on urban roads up 16%

Motorcyclist deaths up 9%

Bicyclist deaths up 5%

Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%

Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
