Ashlie Resendes Injured in Deadly Merced Crash on Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue

Merced, California (June 24, 2022) – Ashlie Resendes, 22, of Fresno, was injured in a deadly collision that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Merced, according to a report by the authorities.
The collision occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on June 22, on Cooper Avenue and Ashby Road.
Resendes was driving a 2019 Nissan westbound on Ashby Road when she made a turn onto southbound Cooper Avenue and slammed into the left side of a southbound 2019 Volkswagen stopped at the intersection.
Due to the collision, the Volkswagen overturned and came to a rest on the shoulder of Cooper Avenue.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, Barbara Guth, 75, died as a result of the collision.
Resendes and the driver of the Volkswagen, Heintz Guth, 85, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Medical Center.
Authorities are investigating the incident.

Merced, California (June 22, 2022) – At least one person was killed Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Merced.
According to the CHP, the deadly crash occurred at about 12: 41 p.m. at the intersection of Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue.
It was not immediately clear what caused the two vehicles to collide. Authorities say one of the vehicles overturned following the impact.
As per the CHP, at least one person was killed in the collision. No other information regarding the mishap was provided.
The incident is under investigation.
Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the U.S. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7 increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”
According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
