Bicyclist, Driver Hospitalized after Pickup Truck Runs Red Light at Sand Creek Road and Minnesota Avenue in Brentwood
Brentwood, California (June 28, 2022) – A bicyclist and a driver were hospitalized with serious injuries after a Brentwood accident that happened Monday morning when a pickup truck ran a red light, as per a local news source.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. at Sand Creek Road and Minnesota Avenue.
According to the Brentwood Police Department, a pickup truck heading east on Sand Creek ran a red light at the intersection with Minnesota Avenue at around 10:30 a.m., hitting an SUV heading north on Minnesota.
The impact caused the SUV to spin and hit a bicyclist crossing Sand Creek Road with a green light. The SUV stopped facing east in the westbound lane of Sand Creek.
Authorities said five vehicles in total were involved in the collision, but did not give information about the other cars involved.
2 Hospitalized after Brentwood Multi-Car Accident Involving Bicyclist
Brentwood police and Emergency responders from the East Contra Costa County Fire Department arrived at the crash scene shortly after reports of the accident.
The bicyclist, only identified as an adult male, was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities said he was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
Firefighters extricated the driver of the SUV from the car and took him to a hospital by a ground ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. He was only identified as a man in his 60s.
The report did not mention about the state of the other parties involved.
According to an eyewitness who was stopped for a red light at the corner, the cyclist was sent into the air by the force of the crash, before landing in front of her car.
No details were given on the driver of the pickup that ran the red light.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
