Gabriel Martinez Dies in Palm Springs Crash on Highway 111 near Gateway Drive

, California (July 3, 2022) – 56-year-old Gabriel Casiano Martinez was killed and two others were injured when a suspected drunk driver slammed into another vehicle on Sunday morning in .

The deadly collision happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 111 near Gateway Drive, according to Palm Springs Police Department.

Officials say both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the suspect rear-ended another vehicle at a very high speed.

Martinez, a resident of , was a passenger in the rear-ended vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspected DUI Crash Kills 1, Injures 2 in Palm Springs

The 55-year-old female driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The suspect, Jackson George, 34, of Whitewater, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Officials determined that the suspect had a previous out-of-state arrest related to DUI.

More details about the crash were not released.

CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
