Santos Valentin Hurt in Deadly Mendota Crash on West Panoche Road and Highway 33

Mendota, California (July 7, 2022) – 55-year-old Santos Valentin of Mendota was among several people injured in a deadly crash that happened near Mendota on Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:45 a.m. on July 5, at West Panoche Road and Highway 33.
According to CHP, 32-year-old Alberto Rojas of Fresno was driving a 2003 Nissan Sentra westbound on West Panoche Road and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 33.
Rojas then proceeded to cross the intersection, and the Nissan was struck on its right side by a 2001 Toyota Sienna traveling on Highway 33.
Valentin was the driver of the Toyota. He suffered minor injuries in the accident and declined medical attention.
Two of Valentin's passengers, a 62-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, both from Mendota, were taken to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno for treatment of moderate injuries.
Another passenger in the Toyota, a 43-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.
Fatal Mendota Crash on West Panoche Road and Highway 33
Rojas suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Madera Community Regional Hospital.
One of his passengers, a 32-year-old woman, was flown to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Another woman riding in the Nissan was taken to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno with major injuries.
A 26-year-old man was also a passenger in the Nissan and sustained minor injuries. The passenger was not taken to the hospital.
Authorities said alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Mendota, California (July 5, 2022) – Five people were hospitalized after a two-car crash that happened Tuesday morning in Mendota, Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.
Two vehicles collided at about 4:48 a.m. on Highway 33 near W Panoche Road and W California Avenue.
Emergency personnel responding to the scene found a white van and a brown sedan involved in the accident.
Five people injured in the accident were transported to Community Regional Medical Center. At least one of the patients was airlifted to the hospital by Skylife.
Highway 33 remained closed to allow the helicopter to land, and as investigators worked the scene.
CHP is investigating the accident.
