, California (July 16, 2022) – One person suffered major injuries in a collision involving an Amtrak train in East Oakland on Friday morning, according to the authorities.

At around 11:05 a.m. on July 15, a tractor operator was reportedly doing maintenance work on the tracks when a Capitol Corridor Train 531 traveling to collided with his machine.

The incident happened near 50th Avenue and East Eighth Street.

A Union Pacific Railroad employee who was operating the machine was extricated from the wreckage and was transported to a hospital with major injuries.

The train was carrying more than 30 passengers at the time, and at least two occupants of the train were injured.

Over 100 gallons of fuel leaked from the train following the incident. Hazmat crews and railroad workers helped to clean up the scene.

The National Transportation and Safety Board and Cal/OSHA are investigating the incident.
