, California (July 19, 2022) – Leroy Keller, 86, of , was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred in Tuolumne County Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. on July 16, on Highway 108, east of Cofill Road.

A Sonora Area CHP Officer reportedly located a stolen gray Ford F350 pickup traveling west on Highway 108 in the Long Barn area. Before the officer activated the emergency lights, the pickup accelerated and drifted across the double yellow lines to pass a vehicle.

The pickup, driven by Joshua Kohl, 49, of La , collided head-on with an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Keller and a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Diana Barreno, 59, of Twain Harte.

The Ford then crashed into the embankment and collided with a 2018 Subaru Outback driven by Charles Hester, 59, of .

Leroy Keller Among 2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Tuolumne County

Keller and his passenger, Earlene Keller, 80, of Sonora, were both airlifted to Doctors Medical Center and Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.

Kohl was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, making a pass over a divided highway, and causing bodily injuries.

The incident is under investigation.
