Earlene Keller Seriously Hurt in Tuolumne County Car Accident on Highway 108
Tuolumne County, California (July 19, 2022) – Earlene Keller, 80, of Sonora, sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital after a vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a multi-vehicle wreck on Saturday morning in Tuolumne County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. on July 16, on Highway 108, east of Cofill Road.
CHP said a Sonora Area CHP Officer was notified of a stolen vehicle spotted heading west on Highway 108 near the Long Barn area.
The officer made contact with the gray Ford F350 pickup truck, and before they activated the emergency lights, the driver of the pickup accelerated.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Kohl, 49, of La Mesa, drifted across the double yellow lines to overtake another vehicle but ended up colliding head-on with an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that was being operated by Leroy Keller, 86, of Sonora.
After the initial impact, the Ford crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Diana Barreno, 59, of Twain Harte.
The Ford then struck the embankment and crashed with a 2018 Subaru Outback operated by Charles Hester, 59, of San Mateo.
Earlene Keller Injured in Tuolumne County Collision on Highway 108
Earlene Keller was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Leroy Keller. They were both airlifted to Doctors Medical Center and Memorial Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
Kohl was treated for minor injuries and later booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, making a pass over a divided highway, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and causing bodily injuries.
The wreck is under investigation.
