Two Hurt in Berkeley Bicycle Accident on University Avenue

, California (July 31, 2022) – Two people were hurt when a vehicle collided with a bicyclist in Berkeley on Sunday afternoon, according to the Berkeley Police Department.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on University Avenue when a silver Mercedes Benz GL 450 SUV collided with a bicyclist who was part of a group of riders traveling through the city.

The Mercedes also collided with three parked vehicles in the area just east of Grant Street.

The crash caused the vehicle to roll onto its side and the driver was trapped briefly but was able to get out on his own.

The driver, a 69-year-old man, and the bicyclist, a 27-year-old Suisun City man, were taken to Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley and Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both sides of University Avenue were closed as authorities investigated the incident.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
