Shasta County, California (August 18, 2022) – Authorities are investigating a big rig accident that killed at least one person on Thursday evening in Shasta County.

According to a local news article, the accident happened on State Route near Buckhorn Summit a while after 6:30 p.m. on August 18.

Per the report, a semi- and a small sedan collided head-on for reasons yet to be determined. The big rig caught fire that burnt the vegetation nearby.

Fire officials and medical personnel confirmed one person died due to the accident. The name of the deceased person was not immediately released, awaiting notification of family.

Authorities closed the westbound lanes of the highway at Rock Creek Road and the eastbound lanes at Buckhorn Summit.
