Edgar Garcia Killed in Taft Crash on Highway 33 and Wood Street

Taft, California (August 22, 2022) – One of the two victims killed in a big rig collision in Taft on Sunday night has been identified as Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia, 35, of Bakersfield, according to the Kern County Coroner's Office.
DUI was suspected to have played a role in the incident that was reported at around 9 p.m. on August 21, in the area of Wood Street and Highway 33.
The collision was between a small car and a semi-truck.
Two passengers in the car were killed in the incident. They were identified as Garcia and Sergio Andres Lopez Mata, 46, from Tijuana, Mexico.
Authorities arrested the driver of the car, Flurencio Martinez, 20 of Bakersfield, on charges of vehicular manslaughter and DUI.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
