Zoe Canto Seriously Hurt in Merced County Truck Accident on Highway 165 and Williams Avenue
Merced County, California (August 22, 2022) – Zoe Maria Canto, 20, of Atwater, was seriously injured in a collision with a big rig in Merced County on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened on Highway 165 at Williams Avenue at around 1:47 p.m. on August 21.
According to the report, Canto was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Williams Avenue when she stopped at the intersection of Highway 165. She then failed to yield and was struck by a 2015 Freightliner traveling south on Highway 165 and pulling two trailers of grapes.
Both vehicles overturned following the impact of the collision and Canto, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.
Canto was transported to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the big rig, Ruben Sicairos, 56, of El Centro, was not injured.
According to CHP, large amounts of marijuana, psilocybin, and hashish were located inside the Chevrolet.
The crash caused a closure of Highway 165 for nearly three hours as authorities investigated the incident.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation.

Merced County, California (August 20, 2022) – At least one person sustained serious injuries in a big rig collision that took place Saturday afternoon in Merced County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck was reported at about 1:47 p.m. on Highway 165 near Williams Avenue in the unincorporated community of Irwin.
A big rig collided with a pickup truck for unknown reasons, blocking both northbound and southbound traffic lanes.
Grapes spilled out from one of the vehicles onto the roadway.
The report said the crash resulted in major injuries to at least one person. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to take the victim to the hospital.
Two trucks were requested to pick up the pickup truck and the grapes.
CHP is investigating the cause of the collision.
