, California (August 29, 2022) – Two people were sent to the hospital after a fiery car crash happened Sunday night at an intersection in Vista, as per a local news source.

The accident took place at about 8:30 p.m. at Main Street and Vista Village.

According to the County Sheriff's Department, the crash involved a Scion and a Ford Mustang.

A 23-year-old man was driving the Scion eastbound on Vista Village with a 20-year-old female passenger. For unknown reasons, the Scion hit the Ford and ran off the road, crashing into a tree and concrete wall.

The car's engine caught fire while both occupants were trapped inside.

Two military members, an active duty U.S. Marine and a U.S. Navy Corpsman saw the car on fire and grabbed fire extinguishers from nearby establishments, and doused the flames before first responders arrived.

Emergency personnel freed the victims and requested an air ambulance to transport the driver to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities do not think alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
