Enrique Meza Killed After Driver Runs Red Light in Adelanto

, California (August 30, 2022) – Enrique Meza, 33, of Adelanto, was killed when he was involved in a crash with a distracted driver Sunday afternoon in Adelanto, as per a local news source.

The accident occurred at about 1:19 p.m. on August 28 at and Chamberlaine Way.

Authorities said Meza was driving his 2018 Chevrolet eastbound on Chamberlaine, crossing Highway 395, when 18-year-old Apolinar Lopez ran a red light at the intersection while going northbound on Highway 395. The vehicles were involved in a broadside collision.

Meza remained trapped inside his vehicle until emergency personnel responded and extricated him. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Lopez, also an Adelanto resident, was not injured. Officers said he was distracted when the collision occurred but did not give more details.

The County Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is investigating the accident.
