Tulare County, California (September 11, 2022) – A 59-year-old male motorcyclist was killed in a Monday afternoon traffic accident that left his 49-year-old passenger injured in Tulare County, authorities said.
The accident occurred at about 12:44 p.m., on September 5, on State Route 63, north of Ira Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2005 Toyota, driven by D. Torres Chavez, 69, was headed southbound on State Route 63 when it stopped at the west curb edge, north of Ira Avenue.
At the same time, the officials said that a 2005 Yamaha, operated by the 59-year-old man, was traveling southbound on State Route 63 in the number one lane approaching the Toyota.
Unfortunately, the Toyota reportedly made an unsafe turn from the west curb edge, across both southbound lanes, directly into the path of the Yamaha. The Yamaha collided broadside into the driver's side of the Toyota.
Sadly, the 59-year-old man succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. His passenger was taken to Kaweah Health Medical Center with major injuries.
Chavez sustained minor injuries in the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.

As the summer travel season comes to an end, drivers, motorcyclists, bicyclists and even pedestrians are reminded to use the road responsibly.
Drivers are specifically reminded NEVER to drive while impaired. P. Mark Shayani of Pacific Attorney Group says “There can never be any good reason for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs”.
Shayani explains that impaired driving is not only about driving under the influence of alcohol. “Some over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications may cause impaired driving.” As a driver or rider, it is always good to read warning labels and follow directions of use about operating heavy machinery which includes driving a car or riding a motorcycle.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, 1,159 lives were lost throughout California in drunk driving-related traffic collisions.
