Boyue Huang Killed in Irvine Scooter Crash at Barranca Parkway and Red Hill Avenue
Irvine, California (September 14, 2022) – A scooter rider died after being struck by a suspected DUI motorist in Irvine on September 6, according to Irvine police.
Boyue Huang, 19, of Irvine, was riding a MiniMotors Speedway Nano Pro electric scooter at around 9:07 p.m. in the area of Barranca Parkway and Red Hill Avenue when a black Hyundai sedan struck him.
Huang was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on September 12.
Alcohol and drugs were suspected to have played a role in the incident.
The driver of the Hyundai, Rhett Joseph Zerboni, 37, of Anaheim, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
The Irvine Police Department is investigating the collision.
