, California (September 14, 2022) – A rider died after being struck by a suspected DUI motorist in Irvine on September 6, according to Irvine police.

Boyue Huang, 19, of Irvine, was riding a MiniMotors Speedway Nano Pro electric scooter at around 9:07 p.m. in the area of Barranca Parkway and Red Hill Avenue when a black Hyundai sedan struck him.

Huang was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on September 12.

Alcohol and drugs were suspected to have played a role in the incident.

The driver of the Hyundai, Rhett Joseph Zerboni, 37, of , was arrested and booked into the County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

The Irvine Police Department is investigating the collision.
