Bicyclist Hit by Car Last Weekend at Murphy and Ringwood Avenues in San Jose Dies

, California (September 16, 2022) – A male bicyclist who was hit by a car last week at an intersection in San Jose died of his injuries two days later, according to the San Jose Police Department.

The accident happened at around 9:49 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, at Murphy Avenue and Ringwood Avenue.

Police officers responded to the corner after reports of a crash involving an electric and a car.

At the scene, the officers found an adult male bicyclist with moderate injuries and the driver of a 2017 Lexus sedan.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist was heading eastbound on Murphy in the number one lane, approaching Ringwood. The rider stopped at the intersection despite having a green light and was rear-ended by the Lexus, also traveling east on Murphy in the number one lane.

Rider Dies Days after San Jose Electric Bicycle Crash

Emergency personnel transported the rider to a local hospital for treatment.

The adult female driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

SJPD said on Wednesday, September 14, the bicyclist suffered complications relating to the injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity will be released by the Coroner's Office when his identity is confirmed and his next of kin informed.

According to the police department, the crash is the 48th incident and the 50th traffic collision death this year.
