3 Children, 5 Adults Injured in Vandenberg Crash on Highway 1 at Santa Lucia Canyon Road

Santa Barbara County, California (September 17, 2022) – Three children, one of them an infant, as well as five adults, were injured in a Friday morning car crash that happened on Highway 1 near Vandenberg Village.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the wreck occurred at about 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Santa Lucia Canyon Road, not very far from the Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Two cars were involved in the accident under unclear circumstances.
Santa Barbara County firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.
Three children, one of them an infant, sustained major injuries. Santa Barbara Air Support Unit Helicopter 3 responded and airlifted the infant, accompanied by firefighter paramedics, to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The other two kids were taken to hospitals by ground ambulances. One was hospitalized at Lompoc Medical Center and the other at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
Four adults sustained moderate injuries, and another suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the collision remained unknown.
The southbound lane of Highway 1 was blocked at the Vandenberg Space Force Base main gate until 11:25 a.m. during the rescue operation and as the scene was being cleared.
