Woman Killed in Crash Involving Phoenix PD Car near 35th Ave and Thunderbird Rd

, Ariz. – A female driver died after her car collided with a Phoenix Police Department vehicle Thursday morning, according to the police department.

Authorities said just before 9 a.m., a civilian car and a police vehicle collided near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

An officer was transporting a prisoner to the Cactus Park Precinct when they collided with another car as the officer attempted to turn left from Thunderbird to 35th.

Authorities said the second vehicle hit a light pole and a power box after the first impact, then caught fire.

The driver of that car, only identified as a woman, died in the collision.

The officer and the prisoner were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The deceased person allegedly failed to stop at a red light prior to the accident.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
