Vallejo, calif. – A 26-year-old Phoenix man was killed early Thursday morning in a crash Interstate 80 in Vallejo, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident occurred at about 12:54 a.m. on the westbound 80 Freeway, just east of Georgia Street exit 30B.
According to the CHP, the Phoenix man was operating a 2001 Lexus I-80 near Georgia Street overcrossing when, for reasons still under investigation, he made abrupt left and right moves. As a result, the Lexus collided with the left front tire of a 2007 GMC pickup truck.
The impact caused the Lexus to spin out and drive off the roadway where it struck two trees and a concrete wall, causing it to overturn.
The Phoenix man was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released pending notification to the next of kin.
Authorities say a 9-year-old girl was inside the GMC at the time of the crash. The driver and the young girl were not injured. The incident remains under investigation.
