Bakersfield, Calif. – The Kern County Coroner's Office has released the name of the MacFarland man who was killed on Christmas Day while trying to run across the highway in Bakersfield.
Jorge Humberto Loera, 42, was struck and killed by an Acura after he exited his vehicle and tried to run across Highway 99.
According to CHP, Jorge Loera was driving a Hyundai and had collided with another vehicle on northbound Highway 99, north of 7th Standard Road. Loera exited the Hyundai and began to run in a westerly direction across State Route 99 and was struck by the Acura.

Bakersfield, Calif. — A 42-year-old McFarland man was struck and killed by a car after he tried to run across the street from a different crash on southbound Highway 99 in Bakersfield on Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash was reported around 8:40 p.m. on December 25, 2023, on Highway 99, north of Merle Haggard Drive.
Initial investigation revealed that two vehicles collided and one of the involved people was fatally injured after being hit by a car as he tried to run across the freeway from the original crash scene.
According to the CHP, the 42-year-old McFarland man had been driving a Hyundai and was involved in a traffic collision with another driver on northbound Highway 99, north of 7th Standard Road. Minor injuries were reported in the initial crash.
The MacFarland man exited his vehicle and ran into the No. 1 lane of the Freeway, directly into the path of a southbound Acura, operated by a 22-year-old Fresno man. The Acura, which was going at about 70 mph near Lerdo Highway, struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was hit by multiple other vehicles and died at the scene.
The Fresno man sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital.
No additional information regarding the incident was provided.
