Gonzalez was driving a 2019 Jeep SUV southbound on Highway 59 when he drifted into the path of a northbound 2020 Freightliner box truck

Merced, Calif. – 20-year-old Joseph Gonzalez, of Fresno, has been identified as the man who died in a car crash in Merced on December 26.
The fatal collision happened in the area of Highway 59 and Rahilly Road at about 10:47 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Gonzalez was driving a 2019 Jeep SUV southbound on Highway 59 when he drifted into the path of a northbound 2020 Freightliner box truck and both vehicles collided head-on.
Gonzalez died at the accident scene, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner's Office.
The 54-year-old man from Fresno who was driving the box truck was unhurt.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
