, Ariz. – 41-year-old Jose Gomez died early Thursday morning after being hit by a car near an intersection in Phoenix, police said.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. at 51st Avenue and Thomas Road.

Authorities said Gomez was reportedly crossing the street mid-block when he was hit by a vehicle.

Phoenix firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver stopped and cooperated with investigators.

Phoenix, Ariz. – Authorities are investigating a deadly auto- accident on Thomas Road in West Phoenix Thursday morning.

According to a police report, the collision happened just before 5 a.m. on Thomas Road near 51st Avenue.

A pedestrian was struck while crossing the roadway by a vehicle in unclear circumstances.

The victim sustained injuries in the wreck.

Authorities said the identity of the deceased will be released pending notification of the next of kin.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
