Update: Jennie Gomez Arrested After Hit-and-Run DUI Crash on Highway 50 near Kyburz

El Dorado County, Calif. – One person was airlifted to the hospital, and another was arrested after a hit-and-run accident that happened Thursday morning near Kyburz, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officers received reports about the collision around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 50.

When the authorities responded to the scene, they learned that two crashes had happened.

Police said the driver of a Toyota Corolla collided with a red Dodge Ram and continued driving. The Corolla driver then collided head-on with a Subaru Forester after traveling about three miles down the highway from the scene of the first crash.

Emergency personnel transported the Forester driver to the hospital by air ambulance. The patient is expected to recover.

It was unclear if the other parties involved were hurt, but initial reports indicated that multiple people were injured.

The Corolla driver fled on foot after the second crash but was located and arrested nearby. She was identified as 26-year-old Jennie Gomez from . Gomez was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run.

Caltrans said the highway was closed and asked drivers to use alternative routes. The highway was fully reopened before 1 p.m.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 50 near Kyburz Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
