, Calif. – A black male pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 18 in Apple Valley Sunday evening.

According to the authorities, the incident happened at around 6:20 p.m. on eastbound lanes of Highway 18, just east of Kasota Road, across from St. Mary's Medical Center/Providence. 

A silver 2020 Toyota Corolla hit a black male pedestrian for unknown reasons.

The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The vehicle sustained major damage to the windshield and hood area. The male driver cooperated with deputies and neither he nor his female passenger were injured.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 18 was detoured at Kasota Road onto the outer highway and one lane of westbound traffic was closed for the investigation.

More details regarding the collision were not available.
