Gilroy, Calif. – Two young girls who were killed in a crash with a Tesla on Highway 152 in Gilroy Friday morning have been identified as 7-year-old Elisa Ornelas and 4-year-old Valentina Ornelas both from Morgan Hill.
Elisa and Valentina were passengers in a 2017 Dodge van that was struck head-on by a Tesla on Highway 152 near Lake Road at around 7:05 a.m. Friday, January 12.
Authorities say the Tesla was westbound on Highway 152 when it tried to pass a big rig and collided head-on with the eastbound Dodge. The girls died in the crash. Their baby brother, 1-year-old, and an adult driver survived, police say.

Gilroy, Calif. – Two young girls, ages 4 and 7 years, were killed in a tragic multi-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 152 in Gilroy Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident happened at about 7:05 a.m. on Highway 152 near Lake Road.
According to the CHP, a 25-year-old Los Banos man was driving a 2021 Tesla westbound on Highway 152 behind a Peterbilt big rig. The Tesla driver entered the eastbound lane while trying to pass the big rig and collided with an eastbound 2018 Honda.
The impact caused the Tesla to then strike a 2017 Dodge head-on which in turn collided with the big rig. The impact further caused the Tesla to spin out of control and hit a 2020 Subaru.
According to the CHP, a 7-year-old girl who was in the Dodge sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Another girl, aged 2 years, was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she died.
The driver of the Subaru and three occupants of the Honda sustained minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 7:05 a.m. on Highway 152 near Lake Road.
At least four vehicles were possibly involved in the collision. The impact of the collision sent one of the cars off the roadway and down an embankment.
One person was killed in the accident.
The deceased person was not immediately identified.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
