, Ariz. – A child riding on a bicycle was seriously injured after being hit by a car Monday afternoon in Gilbert, police said.

The Gilbert Police Department responded to the collision on the trail crossing on North Lindsay Road between Juniper Avenue and Elliot Road.

For unknown reasons, a vehicle hit a child riding on a bicycle in the area.

The child suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The identity of the victim was not immediately disclosed.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the officers.

The wreck impacted the southbound lanes of North Lindsay Road for several hours.
