Fatal DUI Wrong-Way Crash on 8 Freeway near College Avenue in San Diego

, Calif. – A49-year-old woman was killed in a suspected DUI wrong-way crash on in San Diego early Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the wreck at around 12:45 a.m. January 13 on the westbound 8 Freeway near College Avenue.

The police said Briana Michelle Contreras, 24, was driving a Honda Civic wrong-way on the eastbound lanes when it collided with a westbound Nissan Kick operated by a 49-year-old woman.

The woman was transported to a trauma center, where she later died.

Contreras was hospitalized for treatment of severe injuries and later arrested. She was expected to be booked into county jail upon her release from medical care.

She will be charged on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The identity of the deceased was withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

An investigation to determine the cause of the mishap is underway.
