Update: Woman Who Died Sunday in Hit-and-Run Accident in South LA Identified

, Calif. – The Department of Medical Examiner identified the woman who died in a hit-and-run crash that happened Sunday night in South Los Angeles as 43-year-old Maria Munoz.

A man was also critically hurt in the accident that happened around 11:35 p.m. on Vermont Avenue near 94th Street.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Munoz and the man were walking in a marked crosswalk westbound on 94th Street at Vermont Avenue when a silver 2023 Kia Sorento traveling northbound on Vermont Avenue hit them.

The driver did not stop at the scene but later abandoned the car near Vermont Avenue and 90th Street and fled on foot.

Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition.

The auto-pedestrian accident happened around 11 p.m. on Vermont Avenue near 94th Street, according to a local news source.

The two pedestrians were in a crosswalk when a speeding Kia SUV struck them.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s or 30s, died at the accident scene.

The second victim suffered major injuries and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The SUV driver abandoned the car at Vermont Avenue and 90th Street and was yet to be located.
