Chico, Calif. – A pedestrian was seriously hurt in a crash that led to the arrest of a driver for DUI early Saturday morning in Chico, according to the Chico Police Department.

The wreck took place in the area of W. 8th and Main streets at about 1:56 a.m. January 27.

Authorities said Vitaly Smith, 30, of Chico, was driving a vehicle that collided with a pedestrian in the area.

The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Smith stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

The intersection was shut down for hours as authorities investigated the accident.

The Chico Police Department is investigating the crash.
