Barstow, Calif. – A 70-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on West Main Street in Barstow on Tuesday, January 23, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Keith Michael Avakian of Barstow was struck by a vehicle at about 6:33 p.m. on W. Main Street at Sundance Lane.
According to the Sheriff's Department, officers with the Barstow Police Department along with emergency crews from Barstow Fire responded to the scene.
Keith Avakian was declared dead at the scene by Barstow Fire.
The involved driver fled the scene but on Wednesday, January 24, at about 10:40 a.m. the hit-and-run suspect, identified as, Jake Allen Wolden, 31, of Barstow turned himself into the Bartow Police Department, and reported that he was the driver responsible for the deadly accident, according to the police.
After further investigation at his residence in the 2700 block of Ironwood Drive, Wolden was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
The incident remains under investigation.
