, Calif. – The mother identified her two children involved in a accident on Highway 50 in Sacramento Sunday evening.

Sacramento, Calif. – A 8-year-old boy was killed and his sister, 9, seriously injured in Pedestrian crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento Sunday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 4:35 p.m. February 11 on the westbound Highway 50 east of 61st Avenue.

Yari Quirarte was driving a black Toyota on the highway when car's tire blew out. The vehicle became disabled at the fast lane.

Quirarte and her two children got out of their disabled vehicle and were standing in the center median when a Ford operated by 30-year-old man slowed to avoid hitting the Toyota instead went into the center median hitting both children.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene while her sister was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed.

It was unclear whether the drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck.

More details regarding the collision were not provided.

An investigation is underway.
