A GMC Sierra reportedly struck a Caltrans employee who has since been identified as Jose Perez Hernandez of Santa Maria

San Luis Obispo, Calif. – A Caltrans worker was seriously injured after being hit by a car on Friday afternoon in San Luis Obispo.
The collision was reported around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 101 just north of Highway 166, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Alexander Ayala, 29, of Santa Maria was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra southbound on Highway 101 when he drifted onto the right shoulder and sideswiped a Caltrans truck.
The GMC Sierra then struck a Caltrans employee who has since been identified as Jose Perez Hernandez, 42, of Santa Maria.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
