Somerton, Ariz – A juvenile was killed and several other people were hospitalized following a traffic collision involving two vehicles in Somerton on Friday evening, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened at about 7:46 p.m. on March 1 on S. Somerton Avenue at W. County 14th Street.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a White Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on Somerton Avenue, when a Nissan Rouge traveling westbound on County 14th Street ran a red light and crashed into the driver's side of the Hyundai.

The impact caused the Hyundai to overturn and land on its roof, and a juvenile passenger in the Hyundai was ejected from the vehicle. The child was killed in the crash. The identity of the deceased was not immediately released pending next of kin notification.

All other occupants of the vehicles sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. The incident remains under investigation.
