, Calif. – One person was killed and another hospitalized after a crash involving a parked excavator on Highway 78 in Oceanside Sunday afternoon.

The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the wreck at around 4:15 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 78 near El Camino Real.

Reportedly, a vehicle with two occupants slammed into a parked excavator in unclear circumstances.

Two parties suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment, where one of them was pronounced dead.

The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed.
