Sherman County, Ore. – 23-year-old Jayden Matthew Smith of Prineville was killed in a fiery head-on crash on Highway 97 in Sherman County.
According to a local source, the incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. on March 17 on State Route 97 near milepost 47.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Smith was driving a northbound Volkswagen Beetle when he crossed into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a trailer driven by a Tacoma man.
The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire and become engulfed.
Smith was pronounced dead at the crash site. The semi driver was unhurt.
