Officer Adam Buckner was answering a call to service when he entered the intersection of North Avenue and East 6th Street on a green light and collided with a car that failed to yield.

Tucson Police Officer Killed in Sunday Night Crash Identified

, AZ – The Tucson Police Department on Monday identified the officer who died in a car crash Sunday night while answering a call to service as 31-year-old Adam Buckner.

The wreck happened just before 10 p.m. at North Campbell Avenue and East 6th Street.

According to the police department, Buckner was traveling north on Campbell in his 2007 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car when he approached the intersection with 6th on a green light and with the patrol car's emergency lights and siren on. The officer collided with a vehicle that “failed to yield” while making a turn at 6th.

Good Samaritans at the scene helped Buckner before emergency personnel arrived and transported him to Banner-University Medical Center, where he later died.

The other driver sustained minor injuries. Police do not believe the driver was impaired at the time of the collision.

No citations or charges were issued but an investigation is ongoing.
