Grant Gosch's van was reportedly stopped in traffic lanes early Wednesday morning near Mile Post Marker 44 without any lights on when it was hit by a loaded semi-truck trailer.
Willits, CA – Grant Gosch, of Cottonwood, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a semi-truck accident that happened Wednesday morning near Willits, the California Highway Patrol – Ukiah Office reported.
The wreck took place around 1:38 a.m. on the Willits Bypass section of Highway 101 near Mile Post Marker 44.
The accident involved an Econo-type passenger van and a loaded semi-truck trailer.
Authorities said the van was, for an unknown reason, stopped in the roadway without lights on when it was struck by the big rig.
CHP Ukiah Office and CHP Garberville Laytonville Resident Post responded to the scene.
Gosch was the sole occupant of the van and sustained critical life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel used an air ambulance to transport the patient to Enloe Hospital in Chico for treatment.
Geovanny Larreynaga from Carmichael was driving the truck and was not injured.
Investigators closed Highway 101 in one direction as they investigated the crash. The closure was expected to last until around 11 a.m.

Willits, CA – One person was injured in a crash involving a big rig in Willits on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened on Highway 101 near MPM44 at about 1:38 a.m.
The CHP said an Econo-type passenger van was stopped in the traffic lanes without any illuminated lights when it was hit by a truck tractor-trailer.
The driver of the van was flown to Enloe Hospital in Chico with major injuries.
The driver of the truck was unhurt.
A section of the highway was shut down for the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
