El Cajon, CA. – A child was hospitalized after being struck by a car in San Diego's East County on Sunday evening.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. on Rios Canyon Road near Kelli Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 9-year-old boy was attempting to cross Rios Canyon Road when he was struck by a northbound 1991 GMC Sierra.
The child suffered major injuries in the accident and was taken to Rady Children's Hospital.
The truck driver, a 76-year-old El Cajon man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
More details about the accident were not released
An investigation into the accident is underway.
