, CA. – A 17-year-old boy died in a scooter accident involving a hit-and-run driver that happened early Sunday morning in Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the accident occurred around 12:40 a.m. near Orange Street and South Street.

A 17-year-old boy was riding a scooter when he was hit by a 2012 Cadillac SRX heading northbound on Orange Avenue.

The boy was offered life-saving measures and then transported to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the car, 35-year-old Karen Mativa, of , initially fled the scene. Moments later, she hit a nearby building at 6100 Orange Avenue. Mativa exited the car and fled on foot. She later returned to the scene and was arrested. The driver was booked into jail for driving under the influence, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and assault with a deadly weapon with force. Her bail was set at $130,000.
