Police said Frank Powers Monachello, 40, of Petaluma, was driving at an unsafe speed when he rear-ended another vehicle

Petaluma, CA – Two people were injured in a crash involving a hit-and-run driver in Petaluma early Sunday morning, according to the Petaluma Police Department.
The crash took place at 1500 East Washington Street at about 1:15 a.m. May 19.
Police said Frank Powers Monachello, 40, of Petaluma, was driving at an unsafe speed when he rear-ended another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 58-year-old Petaluma woman, and her passenger, a 55-year-old Petaluma woman, sustained minor injuries.
The driver was taken to a hospital while the passenger was treated at the scene.
Monachello reportedly fled the scene on foot after the accident but was later located and placed under arrest.
He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of DUI, hit-and-run, reckless driving, and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
The incident is under investigation.
