WSP said Penders was riding a motorcycle northbound on SR 97 when he tried to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle

Chelan, WA – Wilhelm Penders, 59, of Winthrop, was killed in a motorcycle collision in Chelan County on Thursday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident took place on State Route 97 nearly 12 miles Southwest of Chelan on May 23.
WSP said Penders was riding a motorcycle northbound on SR 97 when he tried to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
Penders and his female passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle.
According to the report, Penders was pronounced deceased at a local hospital while his passenger was flown to Harborview with major injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
The WSP is investigating to determine the cause of the collision.
