Police said an 84-year-old woman was driving a 2012 Honda Fit north on Mercury Street when she failed to stop and crashed into the rear of a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Balboa Avenue

Kearny Mesa, CA – An elderly Woman was injured in a car accident in Kearny Mesa on Saturday afternoon, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The incident took place in the 4400 block of Mercury Street at about 1:44 p.m. May 25.
Police said an 84-year-old woman was driving a 2012 Honda Fit north on Mercury Street when she failed to stop and crashed into the rear of a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Balboa Avenue.
The impact caused a chain-reaction collision involving two other vehicles that were also stopped at the intersection.
The elderly woman was taken to a hospital with multiple injuries including a punctured lung and fractured ribs.
Some parties in the other involved vehicles complained of pain.
Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, which remained under investigation.
