Cottonwood, CA. – A 41-year-old man died in a hit-and-run accident that happened early Wednesday morning in Cottonwood, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 3 a.m. on southbound Balls Ferry Road near Trefoil Lane.
A driver of a white Ford F-350 was traveling southbound at an unknown rate of speed when the motorist lost control of the vehicle while the car approached a sharp right turn.
The Ford left the roadway to the south and struck a large tree log which was blocking an access way to the nearby railroad tracks. The truck came to a stop and got disabled due to the log being partially lodged underneath it.

Police officers said the Ford driver fled the scene on foot after the collision. The authorities believe the suspect is a local resident. Anyone with information about the accident is requested to contact the investigating officer at 530-225-0500.
