Police Sergeant, Four Others Hurt in Crash in Yuma

Yuma, AZ. – A police sergeant and four civilians were injured in a car collision that happened Wednesday night at an intersection in Yuma, authorities said.

According to the Yuma Police Department, the wreck took place around 11:49 p.m. at 1st Avenue and 6th Street.

A YPD sergeant was driving a police northbound on 1st Avenue with the emergency lights and siren on. At the same time, the driver of a white Kia Soul was heading east on 6th Street when they crossed the intersection against a stop sign.

The police sergeant swerved but collided with the rear passenger side of the Kia.

The sergeant and the four people in the Kia were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Kia driver was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
