Cristián Acosta Killed in Los Banos Crash on Canal School Road

, CA. – 22-year-old Cristián Castillo Acosta has been identified as the man who died in a head-on collision that left four other people injured last week Thursday in Los Banos.

The collision was reported around 4:35 p.m. on Canal School Road, north of State Route 33, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Acosta was driving a 2017 Nissan south on Canal School Road with an adult female passenger when he allowed the vehicle to drift into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet driven by a 36-year-old man from .

The collision caused the Chevrolet to overturn onto its roof.

Acosta was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Merced County Sheriff Coroner's Office.

The passenger in the Nissan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet and a 34-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with major injuries.

A juvenile passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to Valley Children's Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
