The driver of the Chevrolet and a 34-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with major injuries
Los Banos, CA. – 22-year-old Cristián Castillo Acosta has been identified as the man who died in a head-on collision that left four other people injured last week Thursday in Los Banos.
The fatal collision was reported around 4:35 p.m. on Canal School Road, north of State Route 33, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Acosta was driving a 2017 Nissan south on Canal School Road with an adult female passenger when he allowed the vehicle to drift into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet driven by a 36-year-old man from Stockton.
The collision caused the Chevrolet to overturn onto its roof.
Acosta was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Merced County Sheriff Coroner's Office.
The passenger in the Nissan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
