, CA. – Five people were injured, two critically, when a food exploded Saturday morning in Whittier, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 9:15 a.m. in the 6700 block of Greenleaf Avenue.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene and found five people with injuries sustained in the explosion.

Two of the victims were in critical condition. Two others suffered moderate injuries, and the fifth had minor wounds. The patients were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities did not mention whether the victims were employees or customers but witnesses said al the patients were employees of Lift, a popular coffee shop in the area.

The coffee shop has shifted its operations to the food truck after the roof of their building collapsed, as per the business' management.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but it appeared to have been a propane explosion.
