Coalinga Car Accident
Fetus Dies in 3-Vehicle Collision on 5 Freeway in Fresno County

, CA. – A fetus died and a woman was injured in a multi-vehicle pileup that happened Friday morning near Coalinga, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on 5 Freeway south of Highway 145.

According to investigators, a 2017 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on the freeway directly ahead of a 2022 Subaru Forester also heading in the same direction.

The driver of a 2023 Hyundai was also traveling southbound on 5 Freeway at about 70 mph directly behind the Subaru.

Authorities said the drivers of the GMC and the Subaru had slowed down for an unrelated traffic collision when the driver of the Hyundai failed to notice the traffic ahead had stopped. The Hyundai crashed into the rear of the Subaru.

The impact propelled the Subaru forward, and the right front collided with the rear of the GMC.

A pregnant woman in the Subaru suffered facial trauma and a possible concussion. Sky Life responded to the scene and airlifted the woman to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. When the woman was examined, doctors discovered that her fetus suffered injuries in the crash and died.

It was unclear if the other car occupants were hurt.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
