San Jose, CA. – A 25-year-old woman and her unborn child died in a traffic collision that happened Thursday evening on a freeway in San Jose, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The pregnant San Jose woman was driving a green Honda Civic when, for an unknown reason, she went across the freeway lanes and collided with a Ford pickup truck.
The woman got ejected from her car, sustaining serious injuries. Emergency personnel transported her to Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The driver and her unborn child later died at the hospital. Her name will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office upon notification of her next of kin.
Two children in the Civic, one about 3 years old and the other about 6 years old, were not injured but were hospitalized as a precaution.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck took place around 7:34 p.m. on the southbound 280 Freeway, just north of Bird Avenue.
A green Honda Civic and a white Ford F-150 pickup truck were involved in the accident.
San Jose firefighters responded to the scene and found a male party unresponsive.
The report said one person died in the collision.
Several traffic lanes were closed following the accident.
