Authorities reported that Burkett was driving northbound on southound I-17 when she collided head-on with a pickup truck

Phoenix, AZ. – Javayah Shecole Burkett, 18, of Glendale, has been identified as the woman who was killed in a wrong-way collision in Phoenix on Wednesday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The incident took place at about 3:20 a.m. June 5, on Interstate 17 near 16th Street.
Authorities reported that Burkett was driving northbound on southound I-17 when she collided head-on with a pickup truck.
Burkett was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other driver, a 53-year-old Tolleson man, was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash caused the closure of I-17 as authorities investigated the accident.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
